Holiday bungalows in Stabicad for Revit

BIM project: Holiday bungalows

Starting a BIM project with different installation concepts? Dutch engineering agency Van Hoften took on the challenge. In collaboration with construction company Hurks they worked on two different (test) bungalows in Stabicad for Revit, fully realized in BIM. Arjan Burghout, project leader & BIM manager, and Geert-Jan Bosmans, Project leader & sales at Van Hoften, presented this project during the SUM.

Bungalows
The client asked for two bungalows from sketch to final design in BIM. A true BIM project, in which Van Hoften was responsible for the plumbing, central heating, mechanical ventilation, and electrical installations. Both bungalows are equipped with different installation systems, so that after the trial, a choice can be made for the other bungalows to be built. The bungalows have different types of floor heating and in one of the bungalows there is opted for cooling and heating with a heat recovery unit.

Insights with StabiCAD for Revit
The installations in the bungalow are designed in Stabicad for Revit. This way, engineers can clearly visualize whether everything fits in the available space. Stabicad also provides a strong solution for optimizing and computing systems: existing plumbing fixtures from the architectural model can be connected to the sewer system easily using autorouting families. Afterwards, the system can be optimized and calculated (for control) in Stabicad.

In addition, Van Hoften uses PLS's from MEPcontent for creating material lists that can be used for ordering. In Stabicad, the bills of materials are linked to the model, which means that up-to-date product information is immediately incorporated in the list.

BIM vision
Van Hoften has come a long way since their first training in 2013 when it comes to BIM. The company has set the goal that in 2018, 100% of their projects should be realized in Revit. The focus in this approach lies mainly on the I in BIM: to provide insight into the entire process, from design and order placement to execution, management and maintenance. Arjan explains: "It is important that the process is supported by all parties concerned; the client, contractor and installer. And then collaboration means really working together.”
